El Pilón (New LP)

We couldn't be happier for Chicago based MC (b/w Lawndale) Kastaway, for the release of his 1st full length LP, El Pilon! In collaboration with DC based beatsmith Krikit Boi (not to mention during the global pandemic of 2020), Kastaway finds ways to stay conscious & focused, with honest flows about racial tension, life growing up on the west side of Chicago, family, friends, quarantine... all with the intent of delivering a personal and unique project.

Kastaway is a hip hop artist from the West Side of Chicago and a solid human with a career in restorative work with inner city youth. His music sways from playful to autobiographical. He openly and authentically shares stories of growing up in a family and community plagued with poverty, drugs and violence. Demonstrating feats of flow and lyricism, he regales the listener with tales of hope and sorrow, often cloaking the most profound stories over catchy beats.

Bay Area raised/DC based producer Krikit Boi has been providing artists with musical canvases for over 10 years. Being a hybrid of influences such as J Dilla, Battlecat, and Kaytranda, Krikit Boi created his own brand of “introspective funk” that has reached international audiences through his work with Masta Ace, Dreamville Associate Benji, and long time collaborator Kastaway. Being aware and musically expressive, Krikit Boi provided the necessary soundtrack to the collaborative album EL Pilón. Using El Pilón as an opportunity for the ultimate expression, he and Kastaway created an album in response to the chaotic year of 2020. Addressing social uproar, police brutality, and cultural unity, El Pilón communicates messages of frustration and pain that is balanced by ideas of hope with cultural unity. Krikit Boi’s production has been heard on a variety of networks including ESPN, Vocalo (Chicago), KSJ (Bay Area), and Selection Radio.
